ARE GM FOODS THE ANSWER?
Restrictions on the growing of genetically modified crops in Australia may be eased following State reviews currently underway. Concerns have been raised by the Columban Centre for Peace Ecology and Justice that this step will have irreversible consequences, and that it is being undertaken without the informed consent of the Australian people.
In a recent article published in Eureka Street Fr Charles Rue argues that the long term health effects of GM foods is untested and that the move remove the bans on the growing of GM crops is being driven by the economic interests of biotech companies.
